United Way Bay Area GBI Convening
United Way Bay Area is holding a special convening on Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI) in the San Francisco Bay Area. Guaranteed income, sometimes called guaranteed basic income or universal income, is a cash payment provided on a regular basis to members of a community with no strings attached and no work requirements. It is intended to create an income floor below which no one can fall. Across the country, there is evidence that direct, unconditional cash is a uniquely flexible, efficient and swift means of addressing a range of issues that impact stable housing and physical/mental wellbeing.
Join us on May 13 for an insightful convening on the positive ways that GBI programs not only provide immediate relief from financial crises but also bolster family incomes and move families out of poverty.
What to Expect:
- An overview of recent and current Bay Area Guaranteed Basic Income programs and the results of these pilot initiatives
- A panel discussion featuring local organizations and local government representatives on how we move from pilot projects to local and regional policies that support and encourage GBI programs to help our communities thrive
- Opportunities to ask questions and join the conversation
